OMG, at last Sunday's progressive I had the honor of riding my bike as "sweeper" and following 2 fellows walking at quite impressive speed. I watched my speedometer and they were consistently between 4.8 and 5.1 mph, or 12:30 to 11:46 pace! I didn't note the specific FT, but it was 49 something, and I suspect their average pace for the total 4.05 mile course was somewhere around 12:15-12:20.

I don't know who they were and didn't get a chance to talk to them at the end because of other duties, but I did give them quite the compliments while I was riding behind them.

I tried to observe their technique, but really didn't see anything special other than they were walking fast. In an effort to emulate this and test it as a potential technique to use in a Galloway run-walk strategy for completing a marathon, I tried doing a fast walk mile back to home after doing my hill work-out on Monday.

The best pace I could muster was a 13:18, but couldn't sustain that and my average pace for the mile was 14:14. I remain in awe with the performance of those two quite "speedy" turtle walkers! That's hyper-walking speed for a turtle!
